Best Doctors – an additional benefit with AIG Life and Aviva
Best Doctors can provide a second medical opinion, given by the most prominent physicians around the globe.
Mr M contacted us in March 2017 because he was hoping to increase the level of his life insurance cover. Unfortunately, he found that he was unable to obtain life insurance as he was suffering from neurological symptoms, and had not been given a definite diagnosis. He had undergone various tests and been given the best diagnosis of ‘cognitive impairment with no known cause’. His GP told him that there was nothing more they could do to offer either a diagnosis or a treatment plan.
Our advice? Call Best Doctors
Mr M had a life insurance policy with AIG Life that offered the Best doctors service. We recommended he contact them to see whether they could assist him in obtaining a full diagnosis. He called Best Doctors and was immediately assigned a Case Worker who dealt with his application, and provided him with updates on a one to one basis.
Best Doctors then obtained his medical records including test results, and sent all the documentation to a Neurologist in Boston. The Neurologist assessed all the information and advised that he was also unable to make a diagnosis. However, he did say that the tests weren’t as comprehensive as he would have recommended. The Neurologist noted that Mr M had been given a heart monitor for just three days, and advised that ideally monitoring for a month is best in order to provide useful readings.
Mr M took the report from Best Doctors to his GP to discuss the recommendations. Initially, the GP felt that the NHS budget would not stretch to a month-long heart monitor. However, he agreed to pass the report to an NHS Consultant who subsequently authorised a month-long test. The test results found abnormalities which were not initially found during the three-day test.
This was only found as a result of him using his Best Doctors policy benefit. We wish Mr M a quick recovery.
