When a client has a pre-existing condition, or has suffered a serious illness in the past, the first thing we do is pick up the phone. We speak to Underwriters at many of the UK’s leading Insurance companies. Discussing all of our client’s medical history helps us to identify the best company to apply to. This also means we avoid applying to companies who will end up being too expensive or worse, decline an application. By completing our research thoroughly, we are able to avoid wasting time and obtain the best terms possible for our clients.Call me back
We were contacted by Mr B, a 38 year old male, non-smoker. He contacted us as he wished to discuss life cover.
He had recently married and was in the process of moving house. The mortgage loan was £1.5 million and he required life insurance to cover this and offer additional financial security to his wife should he die unexpectedly. We provided a number of quotes and Mr B agreed that a level term life insurance policy offering a sum assured of £2,000,000 over a term of 25 years would be both sufficient and affordable. The monthly premium was quoted as £126.07.
Mr B told us that overall, he was in very good health although he had been diagnosed with genital herpes four years previously. Mr B had not suffered symptoms since the initial diagnosis and did not require medication or treatment.
Genital Herpes – what is it?
Genital Herpes is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by a virus called herpes simplex. Once you have the virus, it stays in your body. There’s no cure. Symptoms can be cleared but the blisters can come back in a recurrence. A sexual health clinic will be able to advise.
What questions are asked – Will it be embarrassing?
On application, Mr B disclosed the condition and no further questions were asked. We speak with hundreds of people, with all matter of conditions every day.
The insurance provider requested that a Nurse medical, which is a standard procedure for policies with a high sum assured – this had nothing to do with his condition.
The medical is arranged and paid by the insurance provider and usually takes place in the client’s home but can be arranged at a medical centre if preferred.
The insurance provider also requested a completed medical report from Mr B’s GP to obtain details of the Herpes diagnosis.
Once all of the medical evidence was received and assessed, the insurance provider offered the policy on standard terms. This means that the premium remained at £126.07 a month as originally quoted.
Mr B was happy to accept the policy and ensure financial security for his wife.
Please note that the premiums provided are indicative only and based on this specific case study/ example, which is shown for information purposes only. Your own circumstances will determine whether the amount payable is more or less than the figure quoted.

An on-line quote is just that – a quote – it isn’t a definite offer of cover. What really matters is the premium you are offered, after your application has been assessed.
