Life Insurance for people working in Africa

Case Study

Our customer approached us to help him arrange a Level Term Life Insurance policy with a sum assured of £500,000.  Our customer travels to Rwanda regularly for work where he spends 1 week every month.  During our discussions, we recommended to our customer that he apply for a Relevant Life Policy.

What is a Relevant Life policy?

As an owner of a limited company, you can take out a relevant life policy which covers your own life and will pay a sum to your family/dependants if you pass away or are diagnosed with a terminal illness.

The policy is paid for by the business, which can mean a number of advantages compared to a normal personal life insurance policy. Most significantly, it can be tax efficient and result in savings of up to 50% on the premiums, depending on your tax band. The levels and bases on taxation, and reliefs from taxation, can change at any time. The value of any tax relief depends on individual circumstances.

Medical Conditions

Our customer was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2015, click here to find out more about Type 2 Diabetes on the NHS website.

The Outcome

Having completed extensive research we were able to find an insurer who was happy to offer standard rates for the customer based on their travel arrangements.  However, they did inform us that they would require a GP Report and Medical to assess the diabetes risk.
