Our process
When a client has a pre-existing condition or has suffered a serious illness in the past, the first thing we do is pick up the phone and speak to underwriters at many of the UK’s leading insurance companies. Discussing all of our client’s medical history helps us to identify the best company to apply to and avoids wasting time applying to companies who may be too expensive or worse, decline an application. By completing our research thoroughly, we are able to shorten our research process and obtain the best possible terms for our clients.

High risk occupations
We are often approached by clients who are surprised to find that the cost of their life insurance is higher because of their occupation.
A common example of this is a scaffolder or tree surgeon where working at heights is the norm. These occupations are deemed to have a higher degree of danger and are therefore an increased risk to the insurer.
However, not all insurance providers treat these occupations with the same level of trepidation.
Our client
We were contacted by Mr H, a 47-year-old non-smoker. He had recently increased his mortgage and wished to ensure that his life insurance matched the new loan.
He had a Decreasing Term Life Insurance policy with a current sum assured of £65,000 over a remaining term of 5 years for a monthly premium of £21.91.
His new mortgage balance was £110,000 over a term of 10 years.
His existing policy cost considerably more than we would have expected, and it transpired that the premium had been increased because Mr H is a scaffolder.
The outcome
We contacted various insurance providers and found a company who were not concerned by Mr H’s occupation.
A new decreasing term life policy was arranged which offered an initial sum assured of £105,000 over a term of 10 years for a monthly premium of £8.27.
Mr H was extremely pleased to have obtained twice the amount of insurance for less than half the cost of his original plan.
It pays to speak with an expert who can find you the best price and most suitable policy.
