Claim paid imageKevin’s story – a critical illness claim

We were contacted in May 2012 by clients who were buying a new house and were looking for some life and critical illness insurance to help provide them with peace of mind. Like most people they were looking for as much cover as possible and were working to a budget of about £50-55 a month.

We arranged a decreasing life policy which will pay off the mortgage if one of them was to pass away, or if one of them was diagnosed with a terminal illness. We also arranged a level term additional life or earlier critical illness policy for both of them with a sum assured of £40,000 each over a 25 year term.

Within a few months our client, Kevin (38) was diagnosed with cancer of the appendix. After a long course of treatment and an operation he has now been given the all clear, is feeling well again and has returned to work. His insurance company, received his claim form in April 2013 and having received feedback from Kevin’s GP and his consultant, they agreed to pay the claim in full within 6 weeks. Kevin said that he is delighted with the speed and efficiency of the claims process, and feels like the £40,000 benefit he is receiving is a real bonus as he has been given the all clear and no further treatment is required.

The other good news is that as we originally advised Kevin and his wife to take out a policy each, rather than joint cover, he still has his life insurance policy in place protecting his mortgage (arranging new or replacement cover now he has had cancer would probably be impossible, at least for a few years), and his wife still has both her life and critical illness policies in place.
