Our process
When a client has a pre-existing condition, or has suffered a serious illness in the past, the first thing we do is pick up the phone. We speak to Underwriters at many of the UK’s leading Insurance companies. Discussing all of our client’s medical history helps us to identify the best company to apply to. This also means we avoid applying to companies who will end up being too expensive or worse, decline an application. By completing our research thoroughly, we are able to avoid wasting time and obtain the best terms possible for our clients.
Our Case Study
We were contacted by a 41 year old male looking to arrange income protection insurance. This was very important for our client because he is the sole earner in the family and has a manual job, meaning there is a higher than average chance that he could become incapacitated.
We looked into a range of options for our client, who has a BMI of 34 which is classed as obese (by the NHS).
For most adults, a BMI of:
18.5 to 24.9 means you’re a healthy weight
25 to 29.9 means you’re overweight
30 to 39.9 means you’re obese
40 or above means you’re severely obese
After carrying out extensive research, we found that all but one insurer would add a premium increase of 50% to the monthly premium. Meaning the premiums were outside of their maximum budget.
However, one insurer was able to offer the cover on standard terms at a monthly premium of £40.00 with no increases or exclusions.
Please note that any premiums mentioned are indicative only and based on this specific case study/ example, which is shown for information purposes only. Your own circumstances will determine whether the amount payable is more or less than the figure quoted.
