Mr A, a 37 year old non – smoker, contacted us as he required Life and Critical Illness insurance to protect his mortgage and family. He wanted to make sure that in the event of either he or his 37 year old wife passing away, that their mortgage would be paid off fully. They also required critical illness cover to provide financial security should either they or their children suffer a critical illness.
One of the most cost effective way of covering this is with a joint Decreasing Term Assurance plan (mortgage protection) and separate Level term life and Critical illness policy each (personal and family protection).
Unfortunately, Mr A has experienced problems in arranging Critical Illness cover because he suffers from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP).
Immune Thrombocytopenia (formerly known as Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura) is a medical term for an autoimmune disorder causing a shortage of platelets (Thrombocytopenia) and bruising (purpura). This resulted in a significant price increase to his Critical illness cover.
Finding the best solution
Each Insurance Provider has their own underwriting guide and we contacted them all to find the best solution. Many of the providers would double the cost of the premium (this is called a loading), but we found one company who were willing to offer Life and Critical Illness insurance on standard rates.
Mr A was understandably very pleased and we were able to arrange the following policies:
- A joint decreasing term life or earlier terminal illness policy with an initial sum assured of £265,000 over a term of 27 years.
- A level term life or earlier critical illness policy with a sum assured of £50,000 each over terms running until their respective 68th birthdays.
- The total monthly cost is £71.15.
Please note that any premiums mentioned are indicative only and based on this specific case study/ example, which is shown for information purposes only. Your own circumstances will determine whether the amount payable is more or less than the figure quoted.
