Our process
When a client has a pre-existing condition, or has suffered a serious illness in the past, the first thing we do is pick up the phone. We speak to Underwriters at many of the UK’s leading Insurance companies. Discussing all of our client’s medical history helps us to identify the best company to apply to. This also means we avoid applying to companies who will end up being too expensive or worse, decline an application. By completing our research thoroughly, we are able to avoid wasting time and obtain the best terms possible for our clients.
Call me backOur Client
Mr H, a 69 year old diabetic, contacted us as he required life insurance to ensure funds are available to support his two daughters. Sadly, their mother passed away with Cancer and so the girls are solely dependent on him.
Mr H would like to leave £1000/month for the next ten years by which time, they would be of an independent age. The most cost effective way of insuring a monthly benefit is paid rather than a lump sum, is with a Family Income Benefit Policy. A Family Income Benefit is a life insurance policy that pays an income to your dependents if you die. The income is payable for the remainder of the policy term and should ideally be index-linked.
However, Mr H has experienced problems in arranging life insurance because he suffers from both Sciatica and Type 2 Diabetes.
During the application process, the insurer will generally ask for the date you were diagnosed, what treatment you’re taking, whether there are any complications and what your latest HbA1c reading was. The insurer will then usually write to your doctor to request additional information before making a decision on the policy.
Mr H, provided us with his latest HbA1c. This insurer also did not feel the need to request further information from our client’s GP. And, based on the HbA1c , his age and general health we found one company who were willing to offer insurance on standard rates ( no raised premium).
The Outcome
Mr H was pleased that we were able to arrange a Family Income Benefit Policy with an monthly benefit of £1,000 over a term of 10 years for a monthly premium of £57.53.
Please note that any premiums mentioned are indicative only and based on this specific case study/ example, which is shown for information purposes only. Your own circumstances will determine whether the amount payable is more or less than the figure quoted.
