We were recently contacted by Miss A , a 28 year old non-smoker. She had no protection in place and had been looking to take out Life cover for mortgage protection and Critical illness cover for personal protection. However, as her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age, the providers that she approached would not cover her for either breast or ovarian cancer. Given her family history she wanted to make sure that she had full cover.
We explained that not all Insurance providers would have the same approach and exclude cover for breast and ovarian cancer. Some companies are happy to offer a the full cover with a small increase (loading) on top of the basic premium.
Miss A was pleased that we were able to secure a life insurance policy offering £200,000 of cover over a term of 30 years on standard terms and a Critical illness cover offering £80,000 until the age of 65 with a small increase in the monthly premium.
The total monthly premium payable was £42.85 (the premium without a family history of breast cancer would have been £34.83).
Please note that any premiums mentioned are indicative only and based on this specific case study/ example, which is shown for information purposes only. Your own circumstances will determine whether the amount payable is more or less than the figure quoted.
