Royal London Added Benefit – Helping Hand by Red Arc in Action
We were approached by Mr C, a 45-year-old non-smoker who wanted to arrange some life insurance. He needed the cover to provide financial protection for his family should he pass away before reaching retirement age.
At the time of his application, he was in relatively good health. Therefore he was able to obtain a level term assurance policy with a sum assured of £100,000 until his 70th Birthday. For a monthly premium of £16.37 with Royal London.
However, for a marginally lower premium, he could have obtained the same level of cover elsewhere. When we explained the importance of added benefits to him and his family, he chose the insurer whose additional benefits most appealed to him. Royal London provides ‘Helping Hand’ by Red Arc, a free support service to their clients who arrange cover through an adviser.
Helping Hand by Red Arc in action
Soon after taking out his Royal London policy, Mr C tore the muscle in his Achilles heel which caused him a lot of pain and interfered with his day-to-day routine. The NHS put him on a long waiting list for Physiotherapy, but fortunately, he remembered that he had access to Helping Hand via his life insurance policy.
After contacting Helping Hand to explain his problem, a nurse from Red Arc contacted him within 24 hours to arrange free physiotherapy sessions at his local clinic whilst he awaited his NHS referral.
Helping Hand provide additional benefits such as:
- Second medical opinion
- Oncology support
- Cardiac rehabilitation
- Speech and language therapy
- Bereavement counselling
- Practical help at home
- Help for careers

Please note that any premiums mentioned are indicative only and based on this specific case study/ example, which is shown for information purposes only. Your own circumstances will determine whether the amount payable is more or less than the figure quoted.
All our case studies are based on actual client scenarios, many of which pre-date 2020. We are confident that the acceptance decision made by the insurers would still be offered. Although it is likely that the rates will have changed, your own circumstances will determine whether what amount will be payable by you and would be fully discussed with you before any plan is implemented.
Whilst you are welcome to get a quote online, we would recommend you speak to one of our advisers.
Any quote that your adviser provides you with will take into account your circumstances and medical history, as well as your budget!
An online quote is just that – a quote – it isn’t a definite offer of cover. What really matters is the premium you are offered, after your application has been assessed.
